The State of Leonida is a state located in the United States of America, to be featured in Grand Theft Auto VI.
Description
Leonida is world-renowned for its beach resorts, amusement parks, warm and sunny climate, nautical recreation, and hosting the busiest port in the world. Attractions such as the City of Vice Beach are referenced throughout the series.
The state is also indirectly responsible for the moon landing conspiracy theorists[3] and the Leonida Man phenomenon on social media.
It is also known for being geographically a "flat state" and a "penis-shaped state".
Inspiration
It appears to be based on the real-life state of Florida. The state is named after Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de León, who led the first European expedition to the Florida peninsula.

To date, five cities and towns have been officially revealed via trailers – two of which have been previously mentioned by name in HD Universe titles.
- Hamlet, Vice-Dale County
- Vice Beach, Vice-Dale County – First mentioned in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online.
- Vice City, Vice-Dale County – First mentioned in Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.
- Waning Sands, Leonard County
- Port Gellhorn, Unidentified Leonida Panhandle county
Trivia
- The seal of the State of Leonida (inspired by the real-life Seal of Florida) features a person being eaten by an alligator.
- The real world state of Florida and its locations are mentioned several times throughout the Grand Theft Auto series. Florida is also seen to be the in-game state in which Vice City is located in the 3D Universe.
- Originally, Leonida used the 3D Universe's Florida name, briefly mentioned in Grand Theft Auto IV.[4] Florida was eventually rendered non-canon in favor of the addition of the State of Leonida in Grand Theft Auto VI as the state in which Vice City is located in the HD Universe, officially making Florida exclusive to the 3D Universe canon only.
- This is one of the three major location name retcons in the series, followed by recurring "Hollywood" actors from Grand Theft Auto III advertisements being mentioned as Vinewood actors in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
- Similarly to Florida's retcon, the city of San Andreas from the original 1997's Grand Theft Auto was also briefly considered valid in the 3D Universe, with the real-life San Francisco being mentioned as "San Andreas" in Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. It was eventually retconned as the state's name in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, with the city itself being rebranded as San Fierro.
